Registration for short movies

Entries

Whether your film was made over the weekend with friends, at university or with professionals behind the camera is, in principle, irrelevant to us. It also doesn’t matter when or where it was produced – it just mustn’t be longer than 30 minutes. Our film festival is open to all themes and styles.

Nevertheless, we choose a special theme every year.
The special theme for kontrast 2027 is HOPPALA!

A popular fixture of the festival programme is our two children’s film blocks (for audiences aged 4+ and 9+). The best short film in each block receives a trophy and a cash prize, with the winners chosen by the children in the audience. So, children’s filmmakers from around the world: send us your best films!

A fixed and popular part of the festival programme is our two children’s film blocks (for children aged four and up, and nine and up). The best short film in each block receives a trophy and a cash prize. The winners are chosen by the children in the audience. So, children’s filmmakers of the world, send us your very best films for these categories too!

You can enter one (or more) films in our festival.

Special theme for 2027 “Hoppala” (= Whoopsie Daisy)

This year’s special theme, “Hoppala”, is not just a word, but a way of life. In Franconian dialects, it is often pronounced more softly as “Hobbala”, conveying a somewhat lighter state of mind. Life isn’t taken all too seriously. A minor mishap, a mistake has happened? With a charming “Hoppala”, you have simultaneously apologised to the other person and also accepted and moved on from the mishap yourself, far removed from societal perfectionism.

But this seemingly innocent word holds further potential beyond its apologetic nature. It expresses astonishment at unexpected twists in life that make us laugh or reflect and open up new perspectives: “Hoppala, I hadn’t expected that!” What would life be without these surprising twists? Perhaps more predictable, but certainly more boring.

The films tell of mistakes or coincidences that can throw us off our usual course. The beauty of it is that life goes on regardless, along paths one would often not have expected.

Dear filmmakers,
through your work, the kontrast Film Festival celebrates precisely these surprising twists and turns in life. And we look forward to your films with that certain „Hoppala“ factor.
